Web 2.0
(rich internet applications)
Rich Internet Applications or Web 2.0 is becoming much more common
place. As technology becomes more powerful and user demand increases,
web based software has become the rule and not the exception. Things
like adding dynamic maps to websites, or tools that let visitors
find the company location nearest to them were once revolutionary,
but are now the rule of the day. But that’s no where near the
limitation,. Now we have development tools that allow us to create
applications that receive data, and chart it in real time.
While we are certainly not limited to them, our platforms of choice
are Adobe’s Cold Fusion Server and Flex. These former Macromedia
tools offer extremely efficient, reliable programming with unparalleled
ease and speed of development. Our team has also spent a considerable
amount of time developing in what is now referred to as Microsoft’s “classic” ASP
platform.
Most (if not all) applications need to be tied to a back-end database.
Our database of choice is MySQL. MySQL is an open-source enterprise
level database that provides a wealth of modern database features
at a performance level that is more than sufficient for virtually
any web application. We have developed many small web or intranet
applications using Microsoft Access and have the ability to develop
applications using virtually any modern database.
